The Country Director of Peace Corps Burkina Faso, Jill Zarchin, and the Country Director for John Snow, Inc. (JSI), Parfait Edah, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on February 20, 2013 at the Peace Corps office in Ouagadougou.
The MOU establishes a close collaboration between these two organizations while simultaneously providing support to the efforts of the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP). The MOU states that Peace Corps and JSI will assist the NMCP in forecasting the demand of malaria commodities as well as strategizing procurement plans of malaria commodities throughout the country, including ACTs (Artemisinin Combination Therapy) and RDTs (rapid diagnostic tests). Peace Corps and JSI will also support the NMCP during the annual universal bednet campaign by providing technical assistance, supervision of operations, and effective management of the LLIN distribution database through the collection of information and the drafting of campaign reports.
Furthermore, the collaboration will strengthen and expand Peace Corps Burkina Faso’s Stomping Out Malaria program by providing technical training to current and future Peace Corps Volunteers, Regional Malaria Coordinators, and community counterparts. Lastly, Peace Corps Burkina Faso has agreed to assign a Peace Corps Response Volunteer to the USAID/DELIVER project managed by JSI to help coordinate the malaria activities between both organizations.
